The Trois-Rivières Lions (affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) announced the signing of defenseman Zachary Massicotte, bringing the Mauricie native back to Quebec.

Last season, the Shawinigan native played for the Maine Mariners (Boston Bruins affiliate) while under an AHL contract with the Providence Bruins. He appeared in 29 games, recording six points and finishing the season with a +7 rating.

Massicotte is set to enter his fifth season in the ECHL, having also suited up for the Orlando Solar Bears and Allen Americans. His experience will add an important presence to the Lions' defensive corps. In 189 ECHL games, he has recorded 11 goals and 36 assists for 47 points. The 6-foot-4 defenseman is also known for his physical style of play, having accumulated 134 penalty minutes during his time in the league.

The Shawinigan native also has AHL experience, appearing in 27 games with the Belleville Senators and Syracuse Crunch.

At the junior level, the left-shot defenseman played for the Rimouski Océanic and the Shawinigan Cataractes in his hometown. It was with the Bas-Saint-Laurent club that he enjoyed his most productive season, recording 30 points in 64 games during the 2019-2020 season. Massicotte was also part of the Cataractes squad that won the President Cup and competed in the prestigious Memorial Cup in 2021-2022. In 220 QMJHL games, the physical defenseman finished his junior career with a +43 rating.

A proud representative of the Mauricie region, Massicotte also wore the colors of the Trois-Rivières Estacades at the M18 AAA level and completed his midget and bantam careers in the Mauricie region.

Now 25 years old, Zachary Massicotte is returning to Quebec to play his first professional season in a territory he knows well. “I’m very happy to be joining the Lions. I know the team is going to be very competitive, and I’ll also have the opportunity to play in front of my friends and family every night, so I’m really excited about that. I already know a few guys on the team, and I’ve only heard positive things about the organization!”

Massicotte’s signing adds to the Lions’ list of offseason acquisitions, joining Anthony Beauregard, Mathias Laferrière, Landon Fuller, Édouard Charron, Jake Gravelle, Christopher Inniss, Mathieu Bizier, Isaac Dufort, Théo Gueurif, Sean Gulka, Kaleb Ergang, Félix Paré, Vincent Nardone, Samuel St-Hilaire, Thomas Lacombe, Thomas Darcy, Robert Orr, Xavier Bernard and Nathaël Roy ahead of the 2026-2027 season.
