The Trois-Rivières Lions (affiliate club of the Montreal Canadiens) have announced the signing of forward Stéphane Huard ahead of the upcoming season, which will begin in less than a month.
A native of Blainville, Huard played in the NCAA with Sacred Heart University in Connecticut last season. The centreman appeared in 35 games, recording six goals and 14 assists for a total of 20 points.
Prior to that, Huard also played in the Canadian university circuit, U Sports, with McGill University. In two seasons with the Redbirds, the left-shot forward recorded 41 points, including 17 goals, in 44 games. During the 2023-24 season, McGill qualified for the U Sports University Cup, where the team finished third.
At the junior level, the Laurentian native played in the QMJHL with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, Sherbrooke Phoenix, Halifax Mooseheads and Shawinigan Cataractes. Over five seasons in the league, Huard played 198 games, recording 126 points, including 49 goals. His best season came in 2022-23, when he recorded 60 points in 60 games.
During his junior career, Huard was teammates with two current Trois-Rivières Lions players: Thomas Lacombe with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada and Israel Mianscum with the Sherbrooke Phoenix.
The 24-year-old Huard will begin his professional career in Trois-Rivières. “I’m very happy to join the Lions and begin my professional career here in Quebec, where I grew up. I’m also really looking forward to meeting the team and the fans!”
Huard joins Anthony Beauregard, Mathias Laferrière, Landon Fuller, Édouard Charron, Jake Gravelle, Christopher Inniss, Mathieu Bizier, Isaac Dufort, Théo Gueurif, Sean Gulka, Kaleb Ergang, Félix Paré, Vincent Nardone, Samuel St-Hilaire, Thomas Lacombe, Thomas Darcy, Robert Orr, Xavier Bernard, Marcus Tesink, Nathaël Roy and Zachary Massicotte as players signed by the Lions ahead of the 2026-27 season.
