Three power-play goals and a spectacular shorthanded tally propelled the Trois-Rivières Lions (affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) to their first road win of the season, as they defeated the Worcester Railers (St. Louis Blues) by a score of 5-2.
The visitors opened the scoring on the power play. Captain Anthony Beauregard received a pass from Jacob Dion before unleashing a quick shot past the opposing goaltender. The goal was Beauregard’s second of the season, while Isaac Dufort also picked up an assist on the play.
The Lions continued their strong play in the second period. Following a shot from Nolan Hucheson, Édouard Charron collected the rebound and buried it to score his first goal of the season. Kaleb Ergang also recorded his first point with the Lions by earning an assist on the play.
Cole Donhauser then cut Worcester’s deficit, allowing the Railers to head into the intermission trailing by just one goal.
In the third period, Mathieu Bizier restored the Lions’ two-goal lead on the power play. Positioned in front of the opposing net, the number 42 unleashed a backhand shot that gave the goaltender no chance. Anthony Beauregard and Isaac Dufort were credited with the assists.
Bizier struck again just moments later. Taking advantage of a scramble in front of the Railers’ net, the Lévis native spotted goaltender Parker Gahagen already committed to his movement. Lying on the ice, Bizier managed to push the puck across the goal line to record his second goal of the game.
MacAuley Carson cut the deficit one minute later, but Anthony Beauregard sealed the victory with an empty-net goal off a pass from Brooklyn Kalmikov.
In net, Francesco Lapenna delivered a solid performance, stopping 24 of the 26 shots he faced. At the other end of the ice, Parker Gahagen turned aside 14 of the Lions’ 18 shots.
The Lions will continue their road trip outside Quebec with visits to the Norfolk Admirals on October 24, 25 and 26. The first matchup is scheduled for Friday at 7:05 p.m. The Lions will then return home to face their fans at Colisée Vidéotron on Friday, October 30, at 7 p.m. for Rock Night.
