The Trois-Rivières Lions (affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) fell 6-1 to the Adirondack Thunder (New Jersey Devils) on Wednesday at Harding Mazzotti Arena in their first preseason game.
The home team opened the scoring with a goal from Jarrett Lee before Kaiden Kanderka doubled the Thunder’s lead.
However, the Lions put together a strong offensive sequence late in the first period to cut the deficit. Newcomer Nathaël Roy fed the puck to Olivier Beaudoin, who is attending the Lions’ training camp on a professional tryout (PTO). Beaudoin then spotted Mathias Laferrière, who fired a quick shot past the goaltender to score the Lions’ first goal of the game in the final minute of the period.
The second period belonged to the New York State club. Goals from Jacob Slipec, Patrick Grasso and Tristan Ashbrook extended the Thunder’s lead to 5-1.
In the third period, Tristan Ashbrook scored his second goal of the game to make it 6-1.
The rivalry between the Lions and the Thunder was also on full display, as two fights broke out in the third period. Thomas Darcy dropped the gloves with Jacob Slipec early in the period before Jake Gravelle squared off against Jace Isley later on. This rivalry will be one to watch throughout the upcoming season, as the two teams are set to face each other 12 times.
The two teams will meet one final time before the start of the regular season. Their last preseason game is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, at 1 p.m. at Centre Premier Tech in Rivière-du-Loup.
The Trois-Rivières Lions’ 2026-27 season will get underway on Friday, October 16, at 7 p.m., when the Lions host the Trenton Ironhawks at Colisée Vidéotron.
