“Wait until someone takes the skates off your feet.” That was the best piece of advice Anthony Beauregard received during the offseason as he considered whether to return for another professional season with the Trois-Rivières Lions.
The Lions’ third captain in franchise history shared the story during the first episode of the third season of the Au cœur des Lions podcast, released last Monday.
After four seasons with the Trois-Rivières club, the number 91 was questioning what came next in his career. It was ultimately a conversation with former hockey player and analyst Bruno Gervais, who grew up in the same area as Beauregard, that convinced him to continue his professional career in Quebec.
“I explained my situation to him and told him I wasn’t sure if I wanted to play another season. He told me straight up, ‘Wait until someone takes the skates off your feet.’ After that, I had a conversation with Alex [Cousineau, president] and Ron [Choules, general manager and head coach], and those words stuck with me,” Beauregard told the podcast’s new host, Étienne Rivard.
A Captain Who Stays True to Himself
The player who holds most of the Trois-Rivières club’s individual records also reflected on being named captain, a decision announced during the team’s home opener at the Colisée Vidéotron.
“People who know me know what kind of person I am, and it’s the same thing in the locker room. Yes, I now have a ‘C’ on my jersey, but I’m still the same Anthony who cracks jokes and messes around with pretty much everyone,” he explained.
A New Role at Home
As a new father, Beauregard has also taken on a new role away from the ice. For now, he considers the responsibility an “easy” one, thanks in large part to the support of his partner.
“My girlfriend does an incredible job when we’re on the road and when we get back in the early hours of the morning,” he shared.
