The Trois-Rivières Lions (affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) wrapped up their road trip on a high note Wednesday, defeating the Maine Mariners (Boston Bruins affiliate) by a score of 3–2.
The visitors opened the scoring in the first period, as Jacob Hudson netted his 13th goal with a shot in front of goaltender Hunter Jones.
The Lions, however, refused to back down and generated several scoring chances, peppering the opposing net with shots.
Early in the third period, goaltender Brad Arvanitis was beaten for the first time in the game. Nicholas Girouard and Anthony Beauregard combined on a beautiful passing play to tie the game. It marked Girouard’s third goal of the season, the native of Notre-Dame-de-l’Île.
The Lions kept the momentum going and took the lead thanks to their third line. Cédric Desruisseaux, the team’s leading scorer this season, took a pass from Anthony Poulin and fired a quick shot for his 15th goal of the campaign. The Warwick native extended his point streak to four games. Captain Morgan Adams-Moisan also picked up an assist on the play.
Less than a minute later, the La Tuque native broke away and added his 13th goal of the season, giving the Lions three goals in the period. Adams-Moisan recorded his second point of the game and was named first star.
Later in the third, the Mariners cut the lead on the power play with a goal from Jacob Hudson. The Trois-Rivières squad held on to secure the win, earning five points out of a possible eight on the road trip.
The Lions will return to Colisée Vidéotron over Easter weekend to face the Mariners three times. The first matchup is set for Friday at 7 p.m.
Saturday’s game on April 4 at 3 p.m. will feature the NASCAR Canada Game, presented by the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. A tailgate and autograph session with seven drivers, including reigning champion Marc-Antoine Camirand, are scheduled for the day.
